Achievement in Asia Award (Robert T. Poe Prize)      


This year we have 13 excellent nominations for the 2021 OCPA Achievement in Asia Award (Robert T. Poe Prize). The OCPA award committee has carefully reviewed all cases and concluded to award two winners:

  • Dr. Chao-Yang Lu (University of Science and Technology of China)
    For 
    his outstanding contributions to quantum computing using photons.
  • Dr. Hai-Zhou Lu (Southern University of Science and Technology, China) 
    For 
    his pioneering explorations on the theories of emergent quantum Hall effects.  

The winners were selected by the following panel of physicists (in alphabetical order):

  • Lei Bao (Ohio State University)
  • Cheng Chin (University of Chicago)
  • Vincent Liu (University of Pittsburgh)
  • Zhengtian Lu (University of Science and Technology of China) 
  • Yuen-Ron Shen (UC Berkeley)
  • Nu Xu (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory)
  • Xingjiang Zhou (Chinese Academy of Sciences)

Outstanding Young Researcher Award (Macronix Prize*)

* The name of OYRA award was changed from Macronix Prize to Ardentec Prize since 2022

This year we have 7 excellent nominations for the 2021 OCPA Outstanding Young Researcher Award (Macronix Prize). The OCPA award committee has carefully reviewed all cases and concluded to award two winners:

  • Dr. Liuyan Zhao (University of Michigan)
    For 
    her seminal studies on revealing and controlling complex textures of electric and magnetic moments in quantum materials using static and dynamic nonlinear optics.
  • Dr. Tongyan Lin (University of California San Diego)
    For 
    her leading, important, cutting-edge research into the nature of dark matter (DM), with a particular focus on experimental searches and theoretical models for DM lighter than the proton.
  • Dr. Long Ju (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
    For his great advances in the study of the topological properties (topological states and excitations) of graphene using novel optical and electronic probes.

  The winners were selected by the following panel of physicists (in alphabetical order):

  • Albert M. Chang (Duke University)
  • Jianping Chen (Jefferson Lab)
  • Tai-Chang Chiang (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)
  • Rongli Geng (Oak Ridge National Laboratory)
  • Vincent Liu (University of Pittsburgh)
  • Fuchun Zhang (Chinese Academic of Sciences)

Outstanding Dissertation Award (ODA)

This year we have 4 excellent nominations for the 2021 OCPA Outstanding Dissertation Award. The OCPA award committee has carefully reviewed all cases and concluded to award three winners:

  • Dr. Hui Wang (University of Science and Technology of China)
    For his outstanding contribution to quantum-dot single-photon sources and boson sampling.
  • Dr. Xinglong Zhu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University)
    Thesis title: Ultrafast and bright radiation sources from laser plasma acceleration
  • Dr. Wenyuan Wang (University of Hong Kong)
    For his outstanding contribution to the studies of a wide spectrum of quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols including the standard decoy-state BB84 protocol and the more recent measurement-device-independent (MDI)-QKD protocol and twin-field (TF)-QKD protocol.

  The winners were selected by the following panel of physicists (in alphabetical order):

  • Lei Bao (Ohio State University)
  • Albert M. Chang (Duke University)
  • Xuan Gao (Case Western Reserve University)
  • Manling Sui (Beijing University of Technology)
  • Hui Zhai (Tsinghua University)
