Chang, Albert M. (張绵福)

Albert M. Chang is currently Professor of Physics at Duke University. He held the position of Professor of Physics at Purdue University from 1997-2003, and Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories from 1984-1997. Prof. Chang is a low temperature condensed matter experimentalist specializing in nano-structured devices and systems in reduced dimensions. His interests span a broad range of correlated electronic systems. These include one-dimensional aluminum superconducting nanowires with diameters as narrow as 6 nm (24 atoms), quantum transitions in quantum-dot Kondo spin systems, one-dimensional electron Wigner crystal-like and correlated states, and chiral Luttinger edge excitations and fractional charge/statistics in the fractional quantum Hall regime. Prof. Chang received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1983, his B.Sc. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1977, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.

Chen, Hsiao-Wen (陳曉雯)

Dr. Chen is a professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of Chicago. Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Chen held a postdoctoral position at Carnegie Observatories and a Hubble Fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She received her Ph.D. for astronomy from State University of New York at Stony Brook. She has served as the vice president of the International Astronomical Union IGM Commission, chair of the Adler Planetarium Visiting Committee, and chair of the Space Telescope Users’ Committee. Her research interests include the formation and evolution of galaxies across cosmic time, chemical enrichment in the intergalactic medium (IGM), and transient phenomena. Her work is related to absorption-line spectroscopy of distant light sources (quasars/gamma-ray burst afterglows) to probe diffuse gas around galaxies, and in combining absorption-line observations with galaxy survey data to understand the recycling of baryonic matter between star-forming regions and dark intergalactic medium.

Gong, Qihuang (龚旗煌)

Cheung Kong Professor of Physics at Peking University, China, where he is also the Founding Director of the Institute of Modern Optics and Deputy Dean of Physics School. In addition, Prof. Gong serves as Director of the State Key Laboratory for Mesoscopic Physics. His current research interests are in ultrafast optics, nonlinear optics, and mesoscopic optical devices for applications. He has received the State Natural Science Award (2nd-Class), the Chinese Physical Society’s Rao Yutai Prize, and the Wang Daheng Science and Technology Prize given by the Chinese Optics Society. He is the Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fellow of OSA and Fellow of IoP.

He is also National Professor of 1,000 talent plan since 2012, and founding director for Center of Phononics and Thermal Engineering Science, Tongji University, founding director of China-EU Joint Lab on nanophononics. 2014/2015 Russell Severance Springer Professor at UC Berkeley, 2013 APS Fellow, 2007 World Scientific Medal and Prize; 2005 OCPA Achievement in Asia Award; 2005 Nat'l Sci. Award, Singapore; 2004 Temasek Young Investigator Award; 2003 National University of Singapore Young Researcher Award; Prof. Li has authored and co-authored more than 290 papers in professional journals. His research covers phononics, topological phonons, heat transfer in nanoscale, thermoelectrics, nonlinear & statistical physics, complex networks.

Li, Hsiang-nan (李湘楠)

Dr. K.K. Phua is the Founding Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Adjunct Professor of Department of Physics at National University of Singapore (NUS) and Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of World Scientific Publishing Co Pte Ltd. K.K. Phua got DIC from Imperial College, London University and Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics from Birmingham University, United Kingdom. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by Birmingham University (2013) for outstanding contribution to physics and scientific publishing. As a theoretical high-energy physicist he did some interesting and useful work in particle physics, particularly in the field of phenomenology in high-energy collisions. He is the Founding President of the South East Asia Theoretical Physics Association (SEATPA). Together with Nobel Laureate Professor C. N. Yang and other senior physicist, he is one of the founding council members of the Association of Asia-Pacific Physical Society (AAPPS). K.K.
