2025 AAA Awardee - Zhengcheng Gu
The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Citation: “For discovery and the systematic understanding of symmetry protected topological order and interacting topological phases.”
Bio: Professor Gu received his Ph.D. in Physics from Tsinghua University in 2007. He then pursued postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2007 to 2009. Following this, he held prestigious research positions at several world-renowned institutions, including the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at UC Santa Barbara, the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter at Caltech, and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, where he also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo. In 2016, Professor Gu joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong as a tenure-track Associate Professor, and in recognition of his outstanding research contributions and academic leadership, he was promoted to full Professor in 2024. His research field is theoretical condensed matter physics. He is an internationally recognized leading expert in the fields of topological phases of quantum matter and tensor network simulations.
