A Brief Summary of the 4th OCPA topical accelerator school/workshop

by Yen-Chieh Huang and Chuanxiang Tang

Following the first three successful OCPA Topical Accelerator Schools & Workshops in 2009, 2011, 2013, the 4th such school & workshop was held at National Tsinghua University (NTHU) in Hsinchu, Taiwan, during August 3-7, 2015. NTHU is the local organizer of this event. This 4th OCPA School & Workshop has 57 registered attendees, including 17 lecturers, 7 doctorate scholars, and 33 graduate students. The lecturers are from SLAC, ANL, U. of Maryland, CAS, Tsinghua U., PKU, NTHU, NCU, NSRRC. The OC (organizing committee) of the school/workshop was chaired by Zhen-tang Zhao (趙振堂), co-chaired by Gwo-Huei Luo(羅國輝) and Chuan-Xiang Tang (唐傳祥). The CC (curriculum committee) and LC (local committee) was chaired by Yen-Chieh Huang (黃衍介).

The focus of the 4th OCPA Topical Accelerator School & Workshop is on advanced accelerator concepts, which address the issues of high gradient, high brightness, high average and peak powers for future electron accelerators. The scope of the School & Workshop further includes important applications demanding the superior performance of an advanced accelerator. With the first lecture on wakefields given by the school founder Alex Chao, the lectures of the School & Workshop started with the introduction of basic concepts on a particle accelerator and gradually moved into advanced topics such as superconducting accelerator, C-X-W band accelerator, optical-structure accelerator, plasma-wave accelerator, and dielectric wake-field accelerator. Finally high-brightness photoinjector leading to ultrafast applications is another emphasized topic of this school & workshop.

Apart from regular lectures offered by experts in the field, student presentations form an important part of the School. Each participating student entered a contest of student presentations with a topic of his/her choice in the area of particle accelerator. The student presentations were graded by all attendees, including scholars and students. The three ranking on the top and receiving the awards are 趙芙涵 of National Tsinghua University (Taiwan), 趙剛 of Peking University, and 廖慶 of Peking University.
