2018-8-31

Professor Kingman Cheung (Department of Physics, National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan) and Prof. Chushun Tian (Institute of Theoretical Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences) are the co-winners of the 2017 Achievement in Asia Award (Robert T. Poe Prize) given by the International Organization of Chinese Physicists and Astronomers (OCPA).

The OCPA AAA (Robert T. Poe Prize) is awarded annually to a Chinese physicist/astronomer or a team working in Asia in recognition of their outstanding achievements in physics and astronomy. The Award carries a total cash prize of US$2,000 and a certificate citing the awardee's accomplishments in research.

The Citation for Chushun Tian: For his ground-breaking discovery of a dynamical analog of the Integer Quantum Hall effect (IQHE) in the quantum kicked spin rotor and new studies on quantum chaos in nonlinear dynamical systems.

BIO: Professor Chushun Tian received his bachelor degree and master degree in physics from Fudan University in 1998 and 2000, respectively, and his PhD degree in 2005 from the University of Minnesota under the late Professor Anatoly I. Larkin. He came to the Institute for Advanced Study at Tsinghua University in 2011 as a Member after working as a long-term research associate with Professor Alexander Altland at the University of Cologne, Germany in 2005-2011.  In 2017, he took the position as a professor in the Institute of Theoretical Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The winners of the 2017 AAA (Robert T. Poe Prize) were selected by the following panel of distinguished physicists (in alphabetical order):

  • Professor Che-Ting Chan                    Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • Professor Meng Jie                              Peking University
